For Spring/Summer 2018 Katie Ann McGuigan presents a striking collection which demonstrates her signature bold print design executed with a strong silhouette, and elaborate pattern cutting.
As a designer, a pervasive source of inspiration for Katie is photographers and their work, particularly those who capture youth. For SS18 Katie began her research looking at photographer Perry Ogden and book 'Pony Kids', as well as Alen Macweeney and the book Irish Travellers, and Colin O'Brien and his book 'Travelers' Children in London Fields. Other artists that Katy has looked at include Frank Stella, Donald Judd, Dan Flavin and Julida Dault.
The palette is made up from secondary colours; orange, baby blue, lemon yellow, army green, and burgundy. The shapes throughout the collection add volume and contrast, peplums, rufflels, lazer cutting, leather and organza.
SS18 shows an exploration of volume, displaying a myriad of layers and textures, ruffles and peplum styles are used throughout the collection, and add contrast to the lazer cutting and organza.
